No starving artist: Hugh Davies’s executive job at La Jolla’s Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego earned him $439,735 during the last fiscal year.

The substantial income level for La Jolla’s Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has been generally treading water of late. During the 12 months ending last June 30, the institution raked in total revenue of $8,762,979, compared with the previous fiscal year’s $8,357,461, according to a recent federal financial disclosure filing.

Executive pay has reflected the times. Hugh Davies, the museums’ chief executive and David Copley director, got a total of $439,735 during the most recent period. In fiscal 2012, he brought home $451,908, and in 2013 $473,628. Chief curator Kathryn Kanjo, onetime director of the University Art Museum at the University of California, Santa Barbara, got $196,861 last year. During the 2012 period, she raked in $193,129, and in 2013 got $196,073.
