Great Deadful Festival at Banner Ranch Julian Sept 29, to Oct 1

Deadheads and jam band fans will enjoy two days of camping and a full day of music in Julian at the Great Deadful Festival, with the bands appearing on Saturday, September 30. Beginning at noon, the lineup will include longtime Winstons regulars Electric Waste Band, as well as True Stories with Bart Mendoza (Manual Scan, The Shambles), Jeff Berkley & the Banned, and Grateful Dead tribute group Easy Wind.

Mission Bayfest at Mariner’s Point Sept 29 and 30

A spinoff of San Diego Bayfest, the Mission Bayfest includes local food trucks and vendors, craft beer and cocktails, and a vendor village with everything from local artwork to cannabis products. The Friday music bill includes Pepper, Fortunate Youth, KBong & Johnny Cosmic, and Sensi Trails ft. Kyle Rising. Saturday’s lineup features Tribal Seeds, Hirie, The Elovaters, Eddie Zuko, and Artikal Sound System.

Neil Fest: A Tribute to Neil Young at Vision Center For Spiritual Living Sept 30

This year’s Neil Fest will showcase San Diego musicians performing their favorite Neil Young songs. The bill includes Jeff Berkley & the Banned (who’ll need to rush to Grantville after playing Julian’s Great Deadful Festival earlier in the day). Berkley will also appear with his duo Berkley Hart. Other performers include Chuck Perrin, Peter Bolland, Joe Rathburn, Sven Erik-Seaholm, Marie Haddad, Sande Lollis, Michael O’Brien, Bobo Czarnowski, and Rizorkestra.

Holly Hofmann Presents Sunday Jazz at Tio Leo’s Oct 1

Taking place weekly in Bay Park and kicking off at 5pm, Sunday Jazz is hosted by flutist Holly Hofmann, who moved from Colorado to San Diego in 1985 and began working with bassist Bob Magnusson and pianist Mike Wofford (her future husband) at the Horton Grand Hotel. A San Diego Music Awards winner for Best Jazz, Hofmann has also collaborated with star bassist Ray Brown and others.

Growing up, Heart co-founder Ann Wilson spent time with her sister Nancy living in San Diego, while their father, a Marine Corps recruiter for the Northwest area, was stationed at Camp Pendleton. Her 2022 solo album Fierce Bliss featured guest players such as Vince Gill, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and all four members of Gov’t Mule. For this support tour stop on Shelter Island, she’s breaking in a new band called Tripsitter.
